Two Badgers Teams
We have two equally skilled Badgers teams with players ranging in age from 11 to 16

We have a thriving Junior section for young players aged from 5 to 16 who progress through the Cubs (age 5+) to Juniors (aged 8 to 12) and onto the Badgers (from 11 to 16) as their skills progress.

All of our Junior sides allow our young players to develop their hockey skills in a friendly supportive environment against other similarly skilled players. When they’re ready they move up through the Juniors and eventually into the Senior teams.

What you need to know

We train and play at The De Montfort School, Four Pools Road, Evesham, WR11 1DQ. Please park in the lower car park off Four Pools Road, not the main car park. Follow the map on our Club COVID pages here.

Evesham & Badsey Hockey Club will meet all of England Hockey requirements for playing hockey safely. We have a COVID Officer with overall responsibility for implementation of the required guidelines and a COVID Working Group who deal with all of the different ways that COVID impacts on our Club. You can read our Club COVID pages here and England Hockey’s COVID pages are here.

Our Junior Teams

We have a thriving Junior section for young players aged from 5 to 16 who progress through the Cubs (age 5+) to Juniors (aged 8 to 12) and onto the Badgers (from 10 to 16) as their skills progress. All of our Junior groups play fun games that build both their hockey skills and their confidence in a friendly, supportive environment. In particular we pride ourselves on welcoming new players and integrating them with the existing groups.
We have a number of dedicated Juniors coaches who are all England Hockey qualified and DBS checked.

Cubs and Juniors train on Sunday mornings from 9am to 10am (sorry!) and Badgers from 10.30am to 11.30am throughout the season. We’re a super-friendly club and we often have 50+ youngsters on a Sunday morning. We have roughly a 50/50 mix of boys and girls, with a range of different ages and abilities.

Our two mixed Badgers teams (Badgers White and Badgers Red) are all under 16 and play matches on Saturdays at home and away in a league against other local sides throughout the season. Badgers hockey is designed to build our young players confidence and to get them playing ‘proper’ hockey. The matches are fun and competitive and our young players grow to love testing their skills as they improve.

Our Juniors play a few fun tournaments each season, usually at Bourton School, which are a great introduction to real ‘matches’ for our younger players.

When the Juniors are ready they’re moved up through the different groups. Cubs move to Juniors from around age 8, depending on how they progress Juniors typically move to Badgers from age 10 or 11, maybe a little later depending on how they progress. Each player is assessed by our coaches and is (gently!) given advice on their progression. When they’re ready the Badgers move on to Senior hockey which in hockey is when they’re ready which can be from 13.

Development pathways

Many Evesham & Badsey juniors progress through England Hockey’s Player Pathway and have gone on to represent Worcestershire, the Midlands team ‘Mercia’ and England. Current Badgers Dylan Watts-Jones and Alyssa Croft play for Worcestershire.  Dan Osborne played regional hockey for five consecutive years and played the Under 16 and Under 18 Futures Cup which is the step for high performing Performance Centre players. In 2021 we’re very proud that Tom Clifford has been offered an England trial.
